This matter first came to our attention after we were contacted by a former client of Brandright who was unsure whether they were still receiving important correspondence relating to their trademarks.
When a representative is no longer operational, renewal reminders, examination deadlines, and third-party actions can be sent to an address that is no longer being monitored. This can lead to missed statutory deadlines, added cost, or in some cases the need to refile.
Following this enquiry, we conducted further research into Brandright and identified important information that trademark owners should be aware of.

What We Know
Based on publicly available records:
- Brandright Limited (Company No. 03343438) entered a members voluntary liquidation process and is now dissolved.
- Gazette notices record the liquidation process and the appointment of liquidators.
- The Brandright name also exists as a registered UK trademark, owned personally by Dawn Margaret Franklin (not by Brandright Limited). The mark is registered in class 35 for brand advisory and consultancy services.
- Some trademarks may still show Brandright as the recorded representative, unless and until the representative details are updated on the UKIPO register.

Scale of Activity
Our internal review indicates that Brandright was recorded as representative on over one hundred UK trademarks, across a wide range of applicants and sectors.
The most recent trademark activity we have identified within this portfolio includes filings and registrations in 2023. This does not mean clients are unprotected, as owners may have since appointed a new representative or managed deadlines internally.
Even so, where Brandright is still listed as the recorded representative, it is sensible to carry out a review to confirm who is currently managing the trademark record and to check upcoming renewal dates and any outstanding deadlines.
What This Means for Clients of Brandright
Unless Brandright’s client portfolio was formally transferred to another authorised firm, some clients may not be receiving important correspondence relating to their trademarks.
This could include:
- Trademark renewal reminders and expiry deadlines
- Opposition notices against pending applications
- Cancellation or invalidation actions brought by third parties
- Examination reports and statutory deadlines to respond
- Requests for evidence of use
- Correspondence relating to changes of ownership
- International filing deadlines where a UK representative is still listed
Many official notices are sent directly to the recorded representative. If that representative is no longer operational, correspondence may not reach the trademark owner.
Failure to respond within statutory deadlines can result in loss of trademark protection and additional cost to restore or refile.
What We Are Doing to Help
We are encouraging trademark owners who previously appointed Brandright to review their UKIPO records and confirm who is currently listed as their representative.
Where requested, we can:
- Conduct a review of your trademark status
- Confirm renewal dates and upcoming deadlines
- Arrange transfer of representation
- Provide ongoing monitoring and portfolio management
- Assist with any urgent matters
Our objective is straightforward: to help ensure that business owners do not unknowingly lose valuable intellectual property rights during periods of administrative disruption.
