A good food brand is personal. The name on the label carries the recipes, the effort and the reputation behind them.
Sameena Thompson, director of The Art of Curry, came to The Trademark Helpline in 2014 to make sure that name was hers.
Protecting the name across food and restaurants
A food business can grow in more than one direction: products on a shelf, a restaurant, takeaway or catering. So we filed a UK application for THE ART OF CURRY on 28 November 2014 covering all three areas:
- Class 29: prepared meals, soups and other prepared foods
- Class 30: sauces, spices, condiments and ready meals
- Class 43: restaurants, cafés, catering and takeaway services
The application was published in December 2014 with no objections, and THE ART OF CURRY was registered on 27 February 2015.
Our help went beyond the filing. In Sameena’s words, Richard “even assisted me with the design and branding of my company, he really went the extra mile”.
What Sameena said
“Thank you so much to everyone at The Trademark Helpline, you have all been terrific! I have received a very thorough and professional service and Richard even assisted me with the design and branding of my company, he really went the extra mile. So thank you all very, very much!”

Update, November 2024: renewed for another ten years
A UK trademark lasts ten years and then needs renewing. In November 2024 we renewed THE ART OF CURRY for Sameena, so the registration now runs to 2034.
