Work out the real cost of protecting your brand, in the UK and beyond, with the official fees included rather than buried in the small print.
Tell us how many classes you need and where you trade. We will show the official fees and our fees separately, so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
Most quotes lump everything into one number. Here is how a trademark cost really breaks down, so you can compare us with anyone.
Collected by us and paid straight to the Intellectual Property Office. These are set by each jurisdiction, and they increase with the number of classes (goods & services) you cover.
Searching the register properly, choosing the classes and wording that actually protect you, preparing the application, and handling whatever comes back from the UKIPO or internationally.
Renewals (normally every ten years), monitoring, and enforcing and defending your trademark if somebody tries to copy it, either with a trademark or online.
If your application is refused, or somebody successfully opposes it, that money is gone and you begin again. It is the single biggest avoidable cost in trademarking. Worse still, a pre-existing trademark owner can request a cancellation even after your trademark has been approved.
A proper audit before you file tells you whether your name is likely to clear, and what to file to give it the best possible chance. That is why we always advise a thorough trademark audit, even though the calculator will happily give you a number without it.
Deducted from your fees if you choose us to register your trademark. If we advise against filing, you get another audit on a different brand within three months free of charge. Either way, you cannot lose the £99.
Claim my £99 audit →Classes are the categories of goods and services your protection covers. Classes 1 to 34 are goods, 35 to 45 are services, and you only own your name in the ones you actually register.
Most businesses need more than one. File too narrow and you leave a gap a competitor can walk into. File too wide and you have paid for cover you never needed.
A UK registration protects you in the UK and nowhere else. If you sell abroad now, or expect to within a few years, each territory needs its own cover.
Filing in the right order can save a great deal, because an early UK filing can give you a priority window to extend abroad. Set your territories in the calculator to see the difference.
Which classes you need, and whether to file abroad, are judgement calls rather than tick boxes. Fifteen minutes with one of our consultants usually settles it. No pressure, no jargon, and a real person rather than a chatbot.
It depends on how many classes you need, which is why we built the calculator rather than printing one price. Your total is always the official UKIPO fees plus our professional fees, shown separately.
No. Official fees are non-refundable, whatever the outcome. That is precisely why we advise a full trademark audit before anyone files, rather than after.
Often yes. If you sell products and also provide a service, those sit in different classes. We will tell you honestly if one is genuinely enough for you.
Your registration lasts ten years and is then renewable. Beyond that, the only ongoing cost is monitoring, if you would like us watching the register for copycats on your behalf, along with enforcement and defence.
The USPTO charges $350 per class for a standard electronic application, with surcharges of $100 to $200 per class for custom goods descriptions or incomplete applications. Between years 5 and 6 you must also file proof of use at $325 per class, or the registration is cancelled.
EUIPO charges €850 for one class, €50 for the second and €150 for each further class, and a single registration protects your name in all 27 EU member states. That is usually far better value than filing in several EU countries individually.
Since Brexit, UK trademarks hold no standing in the EU and vice versa. A UK trademark protects you in the UK only, with lower costs and usually lower exposure to conflict. An EU trademark gives broader coverage, but earlier rights in any member state can be raised against the whole application. The right choice depends on your commercial footprint.
Every registry sets its own fees, from around £20 to over £2,000 per country. Regional registers such as the EUIPO, Benelux, ARIPO and OAPI cover many countries with one fee, and the Madrid System can bundle international filings. The calculator shows the official fees for over 130 registers side by side.
No. There is no single worldwide trademark that automatically covers every country. Protection must be secured country by country, or through regional systems such as the EU trademark. The Madrid Protocol centralises the paperwork, but each country still examines the mark under its own laws.
No. Once an application has been filed, classes cannot be added. If you need wider protection, a new application must be filed, which is why careful class selection at the outset matters and is one of the main things our audit settles.
Yes, you can file directly with the Intellectual Property Office. However, applications filed without professional input run into examination issues almost twice as often, usually over class selection, overly broad specifications or insufficient checks before filing. Official fees are not refunded when that happens.
In straightforward cases, roughly four months, assuming the examiner raises no objections and nobody opposes it. If issues arise the timeline extends, which is another reason to check the ground before filing rather than after.
In some countries, yes. Japan, Brazil and several Gulf and African registries charge separate registration or publication fees once an application is accepted. Our calculator includes those stages in its totals, so the figure you see is the full official cost through to registration.
Whatever you spend, the brand you have built is only truly yours once it is filed. If somebody else files your name first, they get the rights and you get the rebrand. Work out your cost, then get it locked down.
