In combat sports, the logo on a pair of gloves or a set of pads is the brand. It is what fighters recognise and come back to.
Qudeer Ahmad came to The Trademark Helpline in 2013 to protect the logo for his fight gear range: the words No1 FIGHT GEAR DESIGNED FOR Elite Fighters, in black and white.
One application for the whole EU
We filed a European Union trademark application for the logo on 17 October 2013. At the time, a single EU registration covered every member state, the UK included. It covered three classes:
- Class 25: clothing, footwear and headgear, including boxing and martial arts clothing and uniforms
- Class 28: boxing gloves, Thai pads, focus pads, kick shields, shin guards, head guards, punch bags and martial arts training equipment
- Class 35: advertising and business services, and retail of clothing, footwear and headgear
Covering both the kit and the clothing protected the logo on each type of product, and adding retail services covered selling them too.
Registered
The logo was registered on 18 February 2014.
What Qudeer said
“The Trademark Helpline have been fantastic, the service has been great! Thank you.”
Qudeer Ahmad, Muscle Bound
Update, January 2021: a UK registration of its own
When the UK left the EU, every registered EU trademark was copied onto the UK register as a comparable UK trademark. Qudeer’s logo became UK registration UK00912231908, and the UK register shows it in force until October 2033.
What this means for you
If you sell kit under your own logo, protect it for every type of product you sell. Our UK trademark registration service covers the UK, and international trademark registration takes your brand further. Registrations last ten years, so keep an eye on renewals too.
