If the opposition window passes with no objection (or an opposition is successfully defended), your trademark is registered. You receive a registration certificate and your mark is protected for ten years from the filing date.

Yes, a registration does not stop other people applying. If you are actively monitoring, you will be alerted while their application is published and can oppose it before it registers. Without monitoring, a confusingly similar mark can slip onto the register and weaken yours.
