Coming soon — a short walkthrough of this stage.

What's happening at this stage

Once your application clears examination, it is published in the Trade Marks Journal. This makes it formally visible to the world, and it starts a two-month period in which third parties can oppose your application (this can be extended to three months if someone files a notice of threatened opposition).

If nobody objects in that window, your mark proceeds to registration. Most applications pass through publication without being opposed.

What to do & be aware of

Common questions

An objection after publication is an opposition — a third party formally challenging your mark. There are strict deadlines and it needs a proper, evidenced response. Tell us straight away if you receive one.

Two months from publication, extendable to three if someone files a notice of threatened opposition. You can see the exact dates on your portal.

Often, yes — publication makes you more visible. A representative’s Care of Address keeps your details off the register and reduces it.

Scam warning

The register is public, so you will receive official-looking letters and emails about your mark. Most are scams. Do not pay or reply to anything before checking with us — genuine updates appear on your Temmy portal, and we keep a directory of known scams.
